Fun in the Sun: Jessica

Hi, I’m Jessica from Mom 4 Real!  I am so excited to be a guest posting for Amy!  Today I am going to show you how to turn a plain old paint bucket into a fun carry all…
We are an on the go kind of family.  Always running to practices, dinners, and school functions.  A lot of the time, Kate brings along a bag full of markers, colored pencils, and paper to keep her occupied.  Well, last weekend when we were at Lowe’s, I spotted an unfinished paint can for around $3.oo, and I thought…this would be perfect for all of her art supplies!  So, I grabbed it up and headed home to make this adorable carry all!   Here is how I did it…
First, I picked out 3 pieces of coordinating scrapbook paper, and cut it into 4 inch strips.  You will need two 4 inch strips of each pattern.  Each strip will only go around 1/2 of the bucket.
Next, I painted the top portion of the can with Mod Podge.
I smoothed the first piece of scrapbook paper onto the can, and cut around the notches on the sides.
For the bottom, I repeated the same process…paint can w/ Mod Podge, then smooth on paper.

Make sure to take the time to smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles.  I use a Modge Podge smoother, but you can use your fingers if you don’t have this tool.  BTW, I bought the tool set which also includes a roller, and it was cheap and totally worth it.  (Modge Podge is not paying me to say this.)
I trimmed up the remaining piece of paper, and painted the back of it with Mod Podge.  Then I smoothed it over the middle seam.
I cut matching pieces of ribbon, and hot glued them down the side seams.
Then take ribbon and hot glue a strip around the top and bottom, and around the top and bottom seam of the middle piece of paper.

All you have to do now is attach the handle, which slips right in the two notches on the sides.  I hot glued a paper flower over each notch for added cuteness, then added ribbon.
Now it’s all ready to fill with whatever your heart desires!  We are filling ours with art supplies, and may make another for hair bobbles!

I would love to have you stop by Mom 4 Real for a visit!  Thank you so much for having me here at One Artsy Mama!
