Family Friendly New Year’s Eve Celebration

Hi friends!  Well, Christmas 2013 is over and done, and we are only a few days away from 2014.  This year has flown by, and I think it deserves a fun and festive send-off!  I’ve got a few ideas to help you ring in the New Year family-style!

New Year's Eve Family Party Ideas

Our family will be staying home on New Year’s Eve in order to avoid all the crazy people who like to party a little too hard, if you know what I mean.  🙂  That doesn’t mean we’ll be sitting around watching the clock, waiting til midnight.  No!  We’ll be partying and having a great time!  Your family can do the same.  Ready?

First, print off two copies of these circles with the hours printed on them.  (Just click on each image then right-click to save to your computer.)  You’ll need to cut out the circles and grab some tape or glue dots, along with goody bags for each hour and an envelope for each hour.

Make 6 simple goody bags filled with things like toys from the dollar store, party hats, noise makers, or things like that, then label each goody bag with one of the hour circles.  Let your child or family as a whole open a goody bag each hour!

The second set of hour circles will be used on your six envelopes.  Print out this activity sheet and cut out each activity.  Place one activity into each of the six envelopes and seal with an hour circle.  Each hour, your family will have a fun activity to participate in all the way up to midnight!  (By the way, I Heart Naptime recently shared some really cute free New Year printables that would be great for your family photos.  See them HERE.)

You might notice that one of the activities listed is to fill out a Family Time Capsule Questionnaire.  Have each family member answer the questions in this questionnaire (help the littles fill out their own!) and put it in a shoebox or other container until next year on New Year’s Eve!  This could quickly become a fun family tradition, and a great way to document your kids and their changing likes and dislikes.  For a bonus activity, have the kids decorate their Family Time Capsule with stickers, glitter, and other fun craft supplies!

With just a little bit of planning, you and your family can have a fun-filled and festive New Year’s Eve Party at home!  You’ll stay safe, you won’t spend a fortune, and you’ll make memories that will last way past the clock striking midnight!

I hope you and your family have a blessed 2014!

  1. Great ideas! We never go out on “Amateur Night”…although we also don’t have any young kids, I still MIGHT be able to get my adult children to fill out the time capsule questionnaire, which is a really cool idea to get to see next year what everyone liked, wanted, and accomplished throughout 2014!!
