Stenciled Bangle

This past weekend, as I was shopping in Soho with Lucky Magazine {I know, unreal, isn’t it?!}, it occurred to me how grateful I am that I’m not just a Consumer, I’m also a Maker.  I mean, I’m the first to admit that I love to buy myself a great new outfit…and I did!…but there’s something so satisfying about being able to create your own fashion too.  I can’t imagine what it would be like if the only jewelry I had was store-bought and I was totally limited by what I could find and afford.  Instead, I have no limits; if I can imagine it, I can usually create it.  And honestly, friend, so can you.   Today, I’m going to show you a really fun statement accessory I made with just a few simple supplies, four steps, and absolutely no special skills.  Take a look.

Stenciled Bangle

Materials:
{I received all my materials free of charge from Plaid Crafts and Banglewood Crafts, but all opinions are my own!}
Mod Podge Rocks Tangier Stencil
– Wood Stain
– Acrylic Paint in your choice of color
– Paint brushes or spouncers
– unfinished wooden bangle

Step 1: Stain your bangle.  I used a dark Martha Stewart stain which covered really well in just one coat.  Then, I let it dry completely before attempting to do any stenciling.  If you wanted to, you could opt to skip the wood stain and just choose another color of acrylic paint that coordinates with the one you’re using for your stencil and give the bangle a good coat or two of paint for step 1.

Step 2: Adhere your stencil.  Mine wrapped around about 2 1/2 sides of the bracelet.  Press it down firmly so it doesn’t move while you’re working.

Step 3: Fill in the stencil with paint.  Let the stenciled area dry completely, then carefully reposition it to go around the rest of the bangle and finish stenciling until the entire bangle is covered.  Peel the stencil off, wash it, and you’re good to go!

Step 4: Give your bangle a coat of Mod Podge.  This will help protect and seal it.  If you don’t want it super glossy {I didn’t}, you can choose Mod Podge Matte.  You could also use Gloss, Super Gloss, Glitter, or any formula you want depending on your desired finish.

That’s all there is to it!  It couldn’t be easier to make your own Stenciled Bangle!  It’s quick to do {I made mine while the little man was watching an episode of Cat in the Hat}, super easy, and it will be a great statement accessory!

Stay tuned; in the next few weeks I’ll be sharing other ways to use this stencil, and it will involve Mod Podge and…glitter!  Isn’t the pattern a fun one?

Hugs & Glitter,
