Shabby Chic Headband Holder

Shabby Chic Headband HolderHi friends! Do you remember Amy’s post about her awesome wood and burlap photo holder that’s hanging proudly in her guest room? I (Erin) bought that same white frame but made it into something completely different and I can’t wait to show you what I did. As you know, I’m expecting my fourth child, but first little girl this September, and apparently a little girl means some adorable headbands! I wanted a unique way to store and display them, and after a trip to Michaels, I came up with a pretty cool idea that worked with the “shabby chic” feel of Princess C’s nursery.

Materials:

– three hole wooden frame {I got this one at Michaels}

-doorknobs (I got them at Michaels)

-burlap

-spray adhesive

-small nails

-small screws (for doorknobs)

-Mod Podge

-frame backing hardboard (I used a back piece from an old entertainment center)

-hammer, drill

Step 1: Cut the backing piece to fit the frame. The backing material needs to be thick enough that you can anchor the doorknob screws like this hardboard. I used an xacto knife to make the cut.

Step 2: Cut a piece of the burlap to fit around the backing. Use spray adhesive to stick the burlap to the front (this also helps with wrinkles!). I made my burlap longer then the top and bottom of the board so I could pull it tight on the back.

Step 3: Flip the board over and glue the edges of the burlap. Use Mod Podge to seal the frayed edges of the fabric.

Step 4: Nail the burlap backing to the back of the frame.

Step 5: Position your doorknobs (I used painters tape to hold them in place), and attach with screws (and your drill).

I did end up putting some new hardware on the back to hang the frame, since it had some heft to it after the doorknobs were attached. I am so in love with how it turned out and it looks perfect in Baby Girl’s nursery.

I wanted something a little unique to hold all the headbands that I know were coming, and I feel like this fits the bill perfectly. It’s functional but also has a wonderful shabby chic feel that looks right at home in Baby Girl’s nursery.
