Pop Out Photo Christmas Cards

Can you believe how close we’re getting to Christmas?! It’s time to start thinking about holiday cards and to get them ordered so they’ll be ready to send when December gets here. Every year, we order photo cards from Shutterfly, and we’re always thrilled with how they turn out. So, last week, I browsed this year’s choices and ordered my favorite design. Take a look…

I was immediately drawn to the Love Joy Dots Pop Out Photo Card design, and I bet you can guess why! In fact, I’ll give you three reasons:

  1. It’s my favorite color, teal!
  2. I’m obsessed with metallics right now, so the gold and silver accents caught my eye.
  3. {which maybe should be #1} a font that looks hand lettered!!!

Could there be a more perfect card for me?! It’s also available with a black background, but you know I went for color! I also loved the way it coordinated with the photo I wanted to use. Last month, we were at a family gathering on my hubby’s side and we took a ton of family photos. We got literally one good picture of the three of us, and it worked perfectly with this card design.

When I receive cards, I always enjoy hearing about what’s been happening in the lives of friends and family members I’m not regularly in touch with throughout the year. I like to think others feel the same way, so I look for card designs that give me space to write a brief summary of important events. This card gave me a spot on the back, where I was able to share about LC starting at a new school, my book writing adventure, adopting Flynn the kitten, and a few other highlights of our year.

The other thing that stood out to me about the Love Joy Dots card is that it’s part of the brand new Pop Out Cards collection. That means the photo itself is perforated and actually punches out of the larger card! This way, when Christmas is over, if our friends and family want to keep and display just our photo, they can easily pop it out and put it on the fridge. Plus, the little summary about our year is on the back.

I think it’s a really great feature that allows people to save just the keepsake part of the card after the holidays are over. I admit, though, I was also really tempted by Shutterfly’s other new collection, Glitter Cards! They’re shiny and gorgeous, and the glitter doesn’t come off! And, of course, there are the pretty Foil-Stamped cards which include gold, silver, red, and now rose gold too. If you’re having trouble deciding, the new “Use my photo” feature can help! You can upload the picture you’re thinking about using, then see a preview of it in the cards you’re browsing so you get a real idea of how it would look with your photo instead of the stock samples.

Once I chose my card design and personalized it by entering our information, the only thing left to do was choose our envelopes and liners. I thought about doing gold envelopes, but wanted something I could easily write on with my brush pen. I ended up going with a plain white envelope, but accented it with a pretty liner that matches the gold hand lettered script on the card itself. The liner has an adhesive strip at the top, so it easily attaches inside the envelope and makes it extra festive! I also had our return address printed on the back of the envelopes to save me a step when we’re addressing them.

I am thrilled with how our cards turned out again this year! I thought last year’s ornament card was hard to top, but I’m loving this pop out feature. What about you? What kind of Christmas cards do you like to send? If you haven’t taken the perfect photo yet, don’t worry, you can actually pre-purchase your holiday cards for a set price to lock in your savings, then go in and create them whenever you’re ready.

Right now, you can grab great savings on your cards as well as tons of photo gifts with Shutterfly’s Black Friday specials! Use the code BFSTART and take 50% off your orders of $99 or more, 40% off orders of $49-99, or 30% off orders less than $49! Don’t miss this great deal!

I’d love to see the cards you’ll be sending this holiday season; share a pic with us in the One Artsy Mama & Friends Facebook group! See ya there!
